Enduring the worst winter south Texas has ever seen.

Bitter cold invaded our world

as temperatures turned to freezing and below

and wind turbines froze denying us power

in south Texas that also denied us heat.

Well water had to be turned off to protect pipes

denying us water while the cold robbed

batteries of life and cut all ties to others just

as COVID stopped close contact in 2020.

Forced into virtual contact only with others by

pandemic now forced into no contact with

anyone or anything except my cats who

shiver and beg me to turn on the heat.

Also causing me to hide under layers of clothing

and spend my days in bed with my head

hidden under layers of bedclothes

while still shivering as if I had palsy.

Arising to a morning of ice covering everything

icicles on the top of the roof of my car

windows encased in ripples of ice

and the ground white as if with snow.

Trees, hay bales, shrubs and grass covered in white

until temperatures began to rise slightly above

freezing then ice avalanched off the roof

making me think the trailer was falling apart.

As temperatures rose above freezing it was as if

it was raining from roof, windows, car and trees

puddles formed in the road next to chunks

that fell from everything formerly encased.

Now as evening has fallen temperatures are dropping

feeling ever closer to readings that will soon

create more coatings of ice on all things

so recently divested of their frigid coatings.

Thank you. You are so kind and thoughtful. We're all 3 doing okay and tonight should be the end of the bad weather. Tomorrow is predicted to be 67 and 51. We will have one more drop to 38 before temperatures go into real Spring.
