What is that wondrous perfume in the air?
It makes me feel without a care.
Searching as I am walking about
The aroma is enough to make me shout.
Sniffing around, over each flower I bent
Until at last I found the source of the scent.
Peristeria elata is the reason
The air smells so sweet this season.
Spring is made a little brighter
And hearts are suddenly lighter
When eyes fall upon the sight
Of the lovely Dove Orchid so white.
Cupped within the bloom for all to love
Is the shape of a sweet, peaceful dove.
With wings spread as if just settling from flight
Did it decide to nest or fly away again it might?
No, this dove will never flee.
Within the flower he will always be
Sitting amid the burgundy spots
Until the bloom finally rots.
But dear friends, do not despair
Next spring again the spikes will bear
More lovely blooms with doves so fair
And sweet perfume to fill the air.
