Helping someone in need.

Every story as a hero, and this time, it was me. If anyone had told me that I would be a hero I would have laughed to myself. yeah right, it wasn’t that I didn’t want to be one I think most people would, wouldn’t they?

How I became a hero well it was sort of like every other day well except that I was traveling away from home after I’d been in an accident I couldn’t even tell you how I got there let's see where was I oh yes that’s right.

I was hungry. I was passing through a small town, saw a diner and decided to go in of course you would, too I couldn’t tell you what time it was I’d left my phone at home, no watch and when I went in wouldn’t you know it there was no clock there were no customers, I must admit I was beginning to feel like I’d entered the twilight zone there were no people at all that I could see than I heard someone talking no more like arguing outback.

“Hello is it possible for me to get something to eat?”

After I called out I heard a crash and then running feet a door slammed then I heard a weak call for help. Heart pounding I went through to the back carefully opening the door in case they were just inside the door, no one there, I stepped further into the kitchen seeing a door opened I went toward it.

“Hello, are you there?”

I heard a weak sound here going into the room. I gasped as a man was lying on the floor. He'd knocked a shelf over when he’d fallen someone had stabbed him.

I had to calm down. I needed to think about what I should do. I'd done a first aid course years ago. I knew what I had to do. I just had to calm down to think clearly.

That’s right I have to stabilize the knife so it can’t cause any more injury. How did one do that again come on think, oh right need first aid equipment looking around I spotted what I needed?

Speaking to the man I said. “I’ll be right back. I've just seen what I need. I won’t be long, I’m Tabia Rollings I’m just passing through.”

Once I had what I needed I made a circle as I’d been shown all those years ago, once I’d done that I slipped it over the knife as I did I told him. “This is to keep the knife steady so it can’t move around and make things worse.”

Reaching for the bandage so that I could wrap that around the circle thankfully when he had fallen there was a bit of a gap I could get the bandage through on my own I’d been worried about how I’d manage but I could just roll it through and wait until it came out the other end without moving him I got it around him and hoped I remembered it right it had been a very long time ago when I was 18 that was roughly 25 years ago.

“I need to ring for an ambulance, where is your phone?” Not that I knew the number here different places had different emergency numbers.

He grabbed my hand looking down at him. “You want me to stay with you, but I need to ring for help, it’s not like there is anyone else here who could do it.”

Just then someone called out. “Mr. Richards, where are you? I'm wanting breakfast.”

Was that all the time was breakfast time, I called out.

“We’re back here you’ll have to forgo breakfast call for an ambulance, Mr. Richards has been hurt.” I looked down at him and he nodded. That was his name. “It’s ok Mr. Richards now someone is here hopefully they’ll call for help.”

A shadow fell over us. I looked up and saw a man he demanded. “What did you do?”

He was looking at me as if he thought I’d done it. “It wasn’t me someone else did it, they took off out a back door I’m guessing, I found him like this and stop casting blame and call an ambulance.”

He nodded and went out hopefully to ring for an ambulance when he came back, he said.

“One’s on the way.”

“Thank you, did you hear that Mr. Richard’s help will be here soon, just hold on, no going to sleep or anything like that ok.”

Another man came in not long afterward. He was kind of intimidating, he was tall and kind of scary looking he took things in and then came over.

“Keith helps on the way just rest can you tell me what happened?”

“Argued with my business partner got heated and Silver stabbed me.”

The man looked at me then and said. “Can you verify this?”

“I didn’t see the person who did it, I heard arguing then a crush, someone running and a door slamming, I heard someone call for help I came in and found Mr. Richards here.”

“Did you do this?”

He pointed to bandages. I told him I had and I hoped I remembered it right as it was many years ago that I did a first aid course, I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard the Ambulance a few minutes later the EMT’s came in they loaded Mr. Richards up and took him away the man turned to look at me and said.

“Thank you for saving Keith, we'd be lost without him, you're a real hero.”

Every story has a hero, and this time, it was me. This time it was me!

She's will as soon as she gets a minute or two.

How dramatic! I admit if this happened to me, I wouldn't handle it nearly as well as Tabia.

I be hopeless myself if this happened to me I'd panic and not be able to remember any first aid.

Thank you for reading and commenting I do appreciate you taking the time to do so.

I noticed some grammatical errors. I did like how the recollection of some first aid training came into play. There was some suspense when the other customers thought the story teller did it.
