Six Feet Under
I should have looked for firmer ground;
instead I built my confidence on detritus,
a waste ground of rubble
that was going to crumble and take me with it.
Would have happened anyway,
as the earth slipped, broke, tumbled;
but you dug away with that shovel tongue.
From your lips
the word ‘love’ is nothing but a crooked lie,
wielded like a weapon
to make sure I’m buried far deeper
than six feet under.
