I like to think these lyrics are about vulnerability and how the world might take advantage of it if you dear show it. But of course, it's free to be interpreted by the reader and I would love to hear what you might find in the text.

I say preach little child, I say preach.
And she preaches a smile to the world.
Oh, preach little child, I say preach.
She stands there for a while, as the tanks are passing by
and in her little summer dress, she is fine, she is fine
oh yeah, preach little child, I say preach
and she preaches a smile to the world.

The stones beneath her feet start to crumble, and the dust rumbling through the air
All along she reaches out her hand as the dirt beneath her feet starts breaking.
Her knees won’t tremble and her faith remains humble.

I say preach! Little child…I say preach,
and she preaches a smile to the world.
Oh, preach little child, I say preach.
she stands there for a while, as the bullets pass her by
and in her little summer dress, she is fine (she is fine)
oh yeah, preach little child, I say preach
and she preaches a smile to the world.

Arms outstretched as the bullets pierce her chest,
her little heart bumps swiftly for a while
before slowing down, she comes to her knees and she sees
oh, she sees, how the world has been deceived, yet she smiles.
I say preach! Little child…I say preach,
and she preaches a smile to the world.
