As the sun set in the west low

The street lights began to glow

But to Harry's ears he began to hear

Birds chirpping very near

Out to the street he did go

To see the bird's nest built near man's glow

"Mama bird built her nest to close to the light." he thought to himself Maybe I could do something to help

Climbing the pole on his ladder he did see

A mama bird and three little birdys

"What do you want human!" she said as she shielded her children

"I see you built your nest to close to the light,

your children can't sleep during the night

I can help if you are will'in."

"I made a mistake in making my nest

I and my children need our rest

Why should I trust in you

You might lead us into ruin!"

"Mama bird, I'm not trying to be a louse

I have a spot in a tree next to my house

Away from the light

So you and your babies can sleep tonight."

The mama bird looked warily at him

But she was tired, so on a whim

She put her trust of her and her little ones

Into the hands of a human

Harry gently grabbed the nest with one hand.

The baby birds chirpped loudly at the man

Mama bird shielded them with her wings

To protect them from trickery from the human being

Down the ladder and across the street

Harry put the nest on a pile of peat

Getting his ladder and putting it against a tree

He showed the mama bird that's where it will be.

Gently climbing up the ladder with nest in his hand

Baby birds chirping, mama bird still cautious of the plan

Harry wedges the nest tightly in the tree

Away from the street light now they cannot see

"Now mama bird, you and your babies can rest

And in the morning you can fly to the lawn and get them worms for the nest

Enjoy the tree and let your birds grow

And fly from branches, to and fro."

"Thank you human I must say

I was leary in your ways

But I and my babies thank you

And will enjoy this better view."

I was waiting for both barrels to erupt - thankfully, in vain!

Can't blame the bird for not trusting humans 88, I hope the trees not near his cat!

The cat eats prime rib from Nebraska and lobster flown in from Maine daily. He doesn't need to eat a common bird. Thanks for reading.
