A poem penned in tribute to my current USA State of Virginia. A beautiful land of rich variety, and a fine place to call home.

 East Virginia

In the loving arms of rivers, East Virginia's lands unfold.

................From the Blue Ridge to the ocean,

............................a most magnificent tale is told.

We may catalogue her virtues, nature blessed each verdant mile;

................you may rush along her trail ways,

............................or kick back and pause awhile...

North, along a pretty valley, and to the south runs too,

................the lifeblood of Virginia,

............................found in story, song (and view!)

The James and Shenandoah,

................tumble-flow to bay and sea.

............................Appomattox and Rappahannock,

.............................................likewise course through history.

Respect to Chief Powhattan, the first Virginian named,

................though he knew of no such boundaries,

............................still, he's fated to be thus famed.

At future Jamestown, new dreams landed,

................three ships presaging bold migration,

............................melding local and fresh-quest destiny,

............................................as blended-culture; mighty nation.

But beyond old native spirit,

................and colonial overlay.

................Beyond uncivil battles; blood and tears that soaked the clay.

............................Surpassing shackle, and imperfect triumph, with

............................................men and women, heads unbowed,

panoramic Ol' Virginny

.............................................lies lovely, bountiful and proud.

As cascading waters turn eastward,

................and calm to sluggish flow;

............................and likewise, high Appalachia

............................................levels east, as fields to sow;

................and the easterly-sea ...gifts vistas,

.............................................on the abundant Virginian shore,

............................they round out vast variety that each person should explore.

The glories of a remarkable State,

 ...........................endow grandeur for hand and heart;

.............................................bestows delight to every eye,

......................................................................and sets Virginia

...........................................................................................quite apart.
