The two certain things, death and the value of money.

I lay there thinking of weapons kept, sharp things like bullets and angry tongues, of triggers pulled and the pain of the  responding guilt. My exposed bones naked and bare for the head doctor to see and examine in his calm space.

After pausing in his certain wisdom he asked  of the consequence of my being here.

"Death what's on your mind?"

The obvious question pre-supposing the hedious nature of my existence, as well as I can understand it.

I answered, "it's never about me...it's about them and there's."

He paused to write something I wasn't allowed to read, then responded, "I see."

My eyeless sockets blinking I wondered why such hard couches seem so soft, and after a forever moment I asked without permission, "what is the reason for resting in peace? I mean if it actually happened we'd both be out of a job."

Without giving an answer he had me make an appointment for next week. And I paid him with coin and promises, just as life will forver be.
