A young girl trying to finish her families experiment and find what causes the accident that ended her normal life.

Hello, my name is Isa Nadia Hearts which means strong hope is in the hearts. I was always taught to use my name as a slogan whenever things got too tough.

Which was a good lesson seven years ago. My parents were scientists at the government's genetics lab. They were working on the government's top secret genetic formula. The formula is still unknown what exactly it was supposed to do, but my parents knew and they taught me what was in it plus what it did.

The formula was made to cause changes to the genetic code of the person who used it. My parents died in the lab when they were telling me about it. A spy from another country came to steal the secrets but when my parents refused to tell him the formula to make the serum he shot them. The gunshots warned the guards of his presence and he was captured before he could flee.

“Isa, Isa. Isa, wake up.” I heard as someone shook my shoulder with the dark of sleep and my dream fading.

“Yeah, I’m getting up.” I groaned to the voice as I started to rub my eyes with the heels of my hands.

“Do you want to go home and sleep before the presentation?” I realized it was my boss who had woken me up.

I sat up and stretched, “No, no I’m okay. Why?”

“Well, you are only seventeen. I know that you want to finish your parents work but you should really go to school and learn other more important things teens should know, and …” Dr. Smith started but trailed off when he saw my irritated scowl.

“I’m fine. This is my home. It has been since the… well you know.” I shrugged.

“You’re not even the slightest bit homesick or thrusting for a normal life.”

“No, because for me this is normal.” I stood up and started towards the doors leading out of the chemics lab and into the hallway with white walls, tiles and roof.

“Isa, remember that you’re going to be part of the presentation because you know the dangers of this experiment.” Dr. Smith followed me out into the hall.

I sighed and nodded. Then I looked at my watch to see what time it is. It is 1:15 p.m. so that means that I have five more hours until I can eat. I have to be on an all liquid diet because we don’t want anything that I might have eaten to cause a malfunction with the experiment. And then right before I climb into the machine, that will send electric shock waves through my body to activate the serum, I have to drink the genetic changing serum with a microchip in it to track the process.

“Move! The classes are here!” one of the scientists called as she came running towards us. I grabbed Dr. Smith's arm and pulled him to the side just as she was stepping where he had been.

“Thank you. How did you move so quickly?” Dr. Smith said as he put his to the left like a curious animal.

“You’re welcome.” I smiled then started back down the hall. I was ignoring his question because I didn’t have an answer. When the scientist was about two feet away everything seemed to slow down. It was weird but I can’t think about it now, I have a presentation to help with.

“Good afternoon everyone. How are you all today?” Dr. Smith greeted the undergraduate students. His friendly greeting was met with silence and serious looks.

“Alright, I’ll start the presentation.” Dr. Smith looked at me, who was standing next to him, with concern in his eyes.

He motioned for me to go and change into the protective suit. I nodded and started to walk away as he started his speech. I walked for about three feet before turning down a short hallway to my right. Then after one foot of walking down that short hall I turned left into the women's restroom. I pulled the backpack off my shoulder and set it one the ground and kneeled next to it. I unzipped the large pouch and pulled the skin tight neon blue suit. I sighed and undressed from my street clothes and started changing into the protective suit.

After I finished zipping the suit, I looked at myself in the mirror. I have an oval shaped jaw line, emerald green eyes, and shoulder length auburn hair. I pulled my hair tie from around my wrist and put it between my teeth. I then started to pull my thick, curled hair back into a ponytail. I gathered my hair into one hand and with the other I grabbed the hair tie from between my teeth. I tied the rubber band around the top of the ponytail. I pulled my hair tight, picked up the backpack, and walked out of the bathroom.

I was only a few steps away from the group, who were about to walk into the lab where the experiment would take place. I walked over and stood behind the group and slid inside with them. Then walked around the crowd to stand next to the machine.
