Easter Sunday (2021)
Up early
Received a song
In my native tongue
From a foreign land
A child’s hallelujah
Had me drowning in tears
Why I don’t even
Really understand
Early awakened
Clearly shaken
I opened up the hollow
Of Easter morning
By noon
I’m back under covers
Emotions on a holy day
Affect without warning
Hiding in
The beat of memories
Of music videos
From a century past
With each refrain
I experience pain
Wondering how much longer
I am going to last
Not that it matters
I believe I’ve made my peace
For whatever that
May be worth
It’s as clear
As this foggy day
That I’m nearer my death
Than I am to my birth
I’ve soared
And I’ve fallen
But I’ve answered my call
And done what I can to heal
All things
Come to an end
So I ask you my friend
Is it power
Or is it love
That is real

I admire your rhyme scheme and I, myself, can't or don't like to write a poem that doesn't rhyme.

I’m no Robert Service, but he wrote epic rhymes. I’m told that Booksie contest judges look more favorably on free verse...and if that’s their preference, God bless ‘em. But I don’t believe I’ll be entering anymore online poetry slams.
