2020 was a tough year for all of us. This short story that I wrote out of boredom and courage shows what I think about one of the biggest problems of 2020; Racism

2020...One of the most life-changing years that I have ever experienced. Everything seemed like a bad nightmare at first. A nightmare that I thought would end soon. Well, I was wrong. Just when I thought everything was getting better, everything just got worse. And no, I’m not talking about the whole COVID-19 situation, but about all of the racism and hate that our world has come to. The death of George Floyd impacted many and especially impacted POC. When the news of his death first came out on the news, everything about the heart-aching situation stirred up something in me that I never knew I would be able to feel. What I felt was disbelief….disbelief that such hate and racism is still going on. We are currently now in the year of 2021, and there are no signs of any of the racism and hate ending anytime soon. But that does not mean we have to give up and stop protesting. BLM, Hear Hispanic Voices, Justice for Asians, Protect Muslims, and ect. Everything from racism to inappropriate behavior towards women, we have to do everything in our power to help out. Just because it’s been a few months already doesn’t mean we have to stop with all of these movements. We will not stop until we get a satisfactory answer, that being no more racism, violence, abuse, and hate. I myself, have made a promise not only to everyone out there in the world but to myself too, that I will not stop until I do what needs to be done. Either that being standing up for someone that needs help or going on protests. I will not stop, because I genuinely care about everything going on right now.

 Black Lives Will Always Matter

Before, I never knew what my real purpose in life was. Everyone around me seemed to already have their whole life planned out right in front of me. Everyone wanted to either be teachers, doctors, restaurant owners, or even lawyers. And what about me you may ask?... Gosh well I’ve always been stuck in the same dream. That dream is becoming a Kpop star. Funny isn’t it? A young Mexican girl seeking to make it big in the Korean industry, and I don’t even have talent. My only “talent” is being able to decently dance. And that is when I’m not too lazy to get up and learn a whole dance tutorial. But then one day, everything changed. I was having a normal day as always, just sitting on my bed watching Raven’s Home on Disney channel. I then decided to go on my phone and scroll through TikTok. Crazy to think how I always swore I would never get TikTok as it seemed addictive, and here I am. Scrolling through the app full of dances and makeup videos, until one specific video got my attention. It was a video of people chanting at a protest at a BLM protest. I am still not sure what exactly made me feel this way, but the pain and sorrow in the voices of all of the people at the protest...it was so much pain, but power in one 30 second video on TikTok.

Racism has never been a big topic in my family, but I am definitely one of the few members of our family that is serious on the topic. I may be young, and the older generation of our family may have more experience in life. But I am old enough to understand that discriminating against others because of their race, skin color, or sexuality is wrong. It’s honestly dumb how all the “Karens” out there feel threatend because of someone’s skin color. We are all humans. We all breathe the same air, we all live on the same planet, and we all bleed red. We should all be one big united family.

It doesn’t make sense how Americans think the average American can only be white. And not only that, but also getting offended when foreigners decide to live here or escape their own dangerous countries and seek refuge in America. If the white Karens don’t want other people from other countries “invading” America, then they can stop coming to Mexico for their little vacations or sometimes to stay and live in Mexico. Have people not realized that some America is supposed to be a free country? Not a country for certain people only? In Mexico, we have people from all over the world. And we don’t complain about it. I’m glad that people want to learn about our culture and live in our beautiful but humble country. But that’s not the main point of the story. I can knock some sense into all of the old (and new) generations of Karen's some other day. Gosh, if you’re wondering why I’m writing this story….I don’t even know why myself. But, I feel like this is one of the many ways I can get my special message out there being so young; Discrimination Needs To Stop. Trust me, I’m not a pro at writing and I know many will most likely start getting bored but I will not stop till my dream comes true. My dream, the same dream that many others have, is for racism, violence, and abuse to stop. I can’t believe that your skin color can have such an impact in how you live your life. That 's just wrong. People shouldn’t have to fear for their lives just because of their skin color. Instead, all these fragile-white boys/girls should stop feeling threatened because of someone’s skin color. I have been wanting to go to so many protests for so long. I want to be out there, protesting and fighting for what is right to help others. But that is not exactly easy, especially since I’m still young and COVID is still a thing. I would be putting myself in danger. But in the end, It’s all worth it if it means I get to fight for a good cause. I get to be heard, I get to speak for those who didn’t have the chance to. I want to make a change in this world, and it’s never too late to start. I know a lot of people think we should just forget about everything already, but I won’t. I refuse to forget the people that sadly, because of their skin color, got killed. It hurts to even write this out. I tear up just thinking about all of the innocent lives that got taken. Aren’t police supposed to help us feel safe? Aren’t they the ones we have to call for help? But who are we going to call if the police keep taking innocent lives out of hate and racism? I don’t know who to trust anymore. The police have come too far.

To All My Fellow Asians

Chinese food, almost all of us have had it at some point of our lives. And we can’t deny, it’s very delicious. A lot of us have enjoyed the food with gusto and have even taken some food to go. From egg-rolls to orange chicken, nice huh? But, what about the people? Recently, because of COVI-19, there has been a lot of hate towards asians. Now, when people hear the word Asian, they immediately think of China and China only. They seem to forget that there are 48 countries in Asia. Up to this day, there have been a lot of reported cases of hate crimes being done towards Asians, or specifically towards anyone that looks “Chinese”. 3,800 and maybe even more cases of Anti-Asian hate crimes. Mostly, towards women and the elderly. Now, I know that COVID has been the cause of death for many. But that does not give ANYONE the right to be this hateful and violent towards the Asian community. Think about it, the virus could have started anywhere but unfortunately the virus came from Wuhan, China. Does that mean we should be rude towards the people that we get almost all of our everyday essential items from? Heck no! People have been calling Asians racists slurs and telling them to go back to their own country. How ironic right? White people telling Asians to go back to their own country when not even the Whites belong here. This is stolen land. Therefore, Native Americans are originally from the land we live on. I would like all of the racist “Americans” trying to go back to their own country since they aren’t Native to this land. A majority of America also belonged to Mexico, but that’s something the racists aren’t ready for. Why waste your time telling Asians and Hispanics/Latinos to go back to their own country when most likely not even you belong here? Let’s grow up and stop acting like little kids. This is the land of the free, everyone no matter where they are originally from deserve a chance in this country. Asians, the people we get our clothes, house items, and work items do not deserve any of this hate. They deserve respect.
