My sometimes companion

Like a killer shrew, it's me it sees
A monster with legs waddles after me
Memories live in the now, not past-tense
Free form license doesn't have to make sense
I'm artistically free, or so I tell myself,
Take down the bad that I keep on a shelf
And leaf through the scalding, fiery pages
That I usually keep locked away in cages
Of when I lost any judgment I may have had
Times when good eluded, and out came the bad
I still hang my head in shame when I recall
And no amount of rationalizing helps at all
A man alone with demons from his past
Needs to give himself a break, but demons last
