I’m a burden

Because nothing is ever good enough

nor will it ever be.

I’m a burden.

Because nobody is ever good enough

nor will they ever be.

I’m a burden.

Destined to pass the buck

in the wake of despair,

and not a day goes by

in which it isn’t there.

I’m a burden.

I still haven’t made it clear enough.

We will never see eye to eye.

Long ago I called your bluff.

I’m a burden.

I humoured you,

as if I could see it through.

I’m a burden.

It doesn’t matter what you do or say.

These conditions are here to stay.

If ever I thought there was a way,

remember tomorrow follows today.

I’m a burden.

Until the day my body feels relief

in that earthly tomb beneath our feet.
