The Robot Friend

One day, there was a boy called Reuben who loved reading, he had read thousands of books by the time he turned 8! He loved reading about robots and always dreamed of building his own robot that he could programme to be his best friend but also his servant, someone who would do anything he asked whilst he read books.

After lots and lots of thought, Reuben decided to go for it, to build is very own robot and name him Fred. Reuben gave him arms, legs, a head and a huge body and taught him how to follow instructions but most importantly how to have fun!

After a few days of Fred being in Reuben’s life he realised Fred was actually his best friend, he wasn’t just a robot, he was kind, caring, loyal, funny and a good listener.

One day Reuben was climbing over a huge, spikey fence. Fred had warned Reuben about dangerous hobbies but Reuben didn’t listen. Suddenly, the fence began to creek and wobble, Reuben came tumbling down like a tonne of bricks. ‘Ahhhhhh, my leg, my leg’ roared Reuben – his leg was broken in three places.

Reuben was taken to hospital and after four operations he was allowed to go home and be looked after by Fred. Reuben realised that Fred was more than a robot, Reuben needed him in his life. Fred looked out for Reuben and Reuben looked out for Fred, that’s what real friends are.

If you’re lucky enough to have a friend like Fred, treat them right and keep them close forever – they are very hard to find!
