Status: Finished  |  Genre: True Confessions  |  House: Booksie Classic

A poetic expression of my life long battle with Dissociative Identity Disorder.

Machinist, Cashier, Unloader, Book Binder, Day Trader, Student, Jock, Geek.....
A mind shattered like glass. What was I before it all fell apart?
So quiet! Yet in this man you see there is more.
Someone strikes me without cause. They should have left well enough alone. All I wanted was a friend. Let them see the monster instead.
He lifts the veil of weakness that is me. While I sleep he strikes. Throws sand in the eyes. Three swift strikes to the abdomen then a palm to the jaw. It's all over as he laughs.
I awaken in bed or in some strange place alone. Always alone!
Can't face the horrors of the past. Dreaming of the stones the other children throw. Everywhere I am plagued by reminders of what I have become.
This trauma is a key!
This trauma changes me!
We are the broken soul of what was a man. We are the mask he wears!
Don't know how long I dreamed while the others lived.
