A poem to accompany "A Future That Would Never Exist"

 “Foolish”

I can’t make sense of this.

What would cause him to steal the one

that matters most to me in this life?

My heart is breaking into a million tiny pieces,

like a mirror that has been shattered

when dropped on the floor by accident.

This was no accident.

He planned to do this to me.

The fool wanted me to love him,

but I can’t love a monster.

I feel as if I can’t go on,

but I must.

I can’t only think of myself.

My son needs me.

I only choose to continue breathing for his sake.

He can’t lose his mother when his father was stolen

from him before he even entered this world.

Stolen by his own blood.

Stolen by one of his own people.

Nonviolent they say.

They preach it endlessly,

and yet he took my love,

my heart.

He is worse than evil,

more menacing a creature than ever before existed.

And yet because of my love for his brother,

he is forever linked to me.

Thesiak was the end of me.

How foolish of me to think

it was the beginning.
