Birthdays are great, usually...

Every year

I got that special day

Where everyone says the same thing

And it is a celebration

But to me

It's a somber celebration

And a feeling

Like I shouldn’t be here

That I don’t deserve all of this

Because I know that thread was cut

And I know placing feet

On this uneven ground

Is not real

Because what I saw that night

Five years and whatever ago

 Still hits me

Because that was the only plan I had

And some days

I wonder why I went to plan B

Staying

And even some days

I wonder why I didn’t

I had all the steps but one

But I scrapped the plan

So as everyone celebrates something

I don’t think is a big deal

My welcome to this place

I am celebrating another year

Of the same thing

But put in different words

Living
