As evening comes,

And shadows fall,

I watch them reach,

Along the walls,

Stretching far,

Beyond their grasp,

Awaiting the darkness,

That comes at last,

The night begins,

When they arrive,

Taking over,

Where light is deprived,

To encompass,

The land around,

As shadows now,

Rejoice, abound,

Until the moon,

Begins to rise,

Alighting now,

The darkened skies,

The shadows shrink,

A little ways,

But still continue,

Their nightly play,

All night they move,

All night they roam,

Pressing in,

Against your home,

Wondering why,

You hide away,

Never leaving,

Until the day,

A lonely life,

It seems to be,

Of shadows,

Watching over me.
