Inner Me

My body trembles,

my hands shake;

it’s like a nightmare

but I’m wide awake.

No hiding places

from this enemy

for this foe

resides in of me.

I’ll cower down,

howl in fear

before that voice

begins to jeer;

drowning now

in my own mind,

why can’t my conscience

just be kind.
