It was a long time ago
Struggling to recall hazy details
Now faded into the mind's oblivion
But some things I remember
With a burning clarity

In that abandoned croft house on Harris

I remember small details
A snapshot of that time
A smell, a touch, a look, a feeling
A memory repeating in my mind
A decade later, timeless

In that abandoned croft house on Harris

Years have passed, with little kindness
But it could have been yesterday
If I close my eyes I remember
In vivid detail how it was
Living on the island

In that abandoned croft house on Harris

The memory, shaded with regret
Evokes these feelings in me
All of these years later
I long to be back there
In a moment

In that abandoned croft house on Harris

I remember how his lips felt
The fabric of his shirt I held tight
His body pressed against mine
In the stillness, ghosts held their breath
In this moment that was ours alone

In that abandoned croft house on Harris

I wonder where he is now
What he's doing, who he's with
If he even remembers me
I wonder if he ever thinks
About the times we shared

In that abandoned croft house on Harris

What it could have been
If I had stayed, if I had tried
With him, with the island
Didn't think I'd still be wondering
After all this time, what if?

In that abandoned croft house on Harris

He was from the island where planes land on the beach
On Lewis for a holiday, a chance meeting
I thought I knew what I wanted, I was wrong
I married a woman years later, it didn't last
My type has always been Hebridean men twice my age

In that abandoned croft house on Harris

I moved to Lewis, a foreigner,
I was out of place, unwelcome
The island broke my heart
Far more than a lover ever did
But I will always remember the day

In that abandoned croft house on Harris

Everything's amplified on the Island
All the good – and the bad
What happens in the Hebrides
Stays in the Hebrides
A slow, knowing smile across the Minch

In that abandoned croft house on Harris

The Hebrides changed me
In ways I didn't expect,
Here doesn't feel like home anymore
Left the island behind, didn't look back
But I left a piece of me there

In that abandoned croft house on Harris
