LOVE IS ONLY THE BEGINNING

By Al Garcia

They say that love conquers all.  They also say that love is blind, and that love is never having to say you’re sorry.

Yet, when all is said and done, it is far better to be appreciated and respected than to be loved.  For love too many times veils and masks the faults, errors and blemishes in those bestowed with our unconditional and categorical love or adulation.

Too many confuse love with tolerance and protection, and prefer to close their eyes and silence their thoughts and emotions.  For love unfortunately, sometimes destroys the ones we love and distances the hearts we want to embrace and shelter from the harshness of the world.  Love may protect, but only for a fleeing moment.

True love, like childhood, blossoms, grows and expands naturally beyond the simplicity of compassion, kindness and generosity that comes with the proximity of relations and interactions.

To truly love is to appreciate, respect and value.  Love means speaking up.  Love is seeing and not concealing, but revealing.  Love is not repressing, but expressing.  Love is often harsh and hard and painful.  To truly love is the hardest part of growing up, and to accept true love is to recognize oneself for who we are and not for what we want to be or portray ourselves to be.

Love never conquers, it just triumphs over obstacles and hurdles that come our way.  Love exposes what confronts us and never blinds us to the reality before us.  But most of all, love is accepting the flaws and weaknesses of others, and saying that we’re sorry when we hurt, offend or wound those that we hold close.

Love is only the beginning of the outline of a family, and of each forming, evolving and beating heart within that special bond between parent and child.

We see what becomes a man, when denied the love and nurturing that children need to blossom and bloom.  We have experienced the indifference, emotionlessness, unkindness and callousness of a man who never shared or conveyed love of any kind or type while growing up in a world of privilege, arrogance and greed.  No names.  No titles

If love conquers all, then the absence of love destroys the seeds of human passion and compassion that defines a man, and completes the human soul.

America today has no heart or soul, not because it has lost its passion or its way, but because the harvester of our better selves and the promise of us, has never felt the humility that love bestows, nor experienced the potency and power of the charity of love in any form, and as a result, he cannot imagine, tolerate or allow the best in us to flourish and thrive, and strive to achieve the American Dream.

There is a malignancy in the American soul that has spread into the very heart of our existence.  There is a hostility and anger that has replaced the hope and confidence that once inspired and motivated us to greatness.  And all because an unloved boy became a contemptible man, and a heartless and callous President of a once thriving and optimistic nation – now a nation on its knees, before a spoiled little boy, who never got to feel, or give, the love that defines us and completes us.

If only the Trump family had known what the rest of us have always known -- that love is only the beginning . . . love is a seed that grows, blossoms and blooms . . . and a feeling to cherish and share – everything America was and will be again.
