TO REACH THE MOUNTAIN TOP

By Al Garcia

How many have actually reached the mountain top and seen the view from on high?  How many have stumbled and skinned their knees on their personal journey up the mountain, only to fall and tumble down to the ledge below or worse?  How many get up, brush themselves off and begin to climb again, especially when the mountain ahead looks even taller and harder to climb than before?

Life is not an experience for the weak or frail of body or of mind.  Life is a journey through time and space that extracts the very essence of our being at every turn and twist and bend that assaults the human spirit at every stage of the short yet consequential existence, before that very certain extinction.

At each moment of my journey, I saw those I passed along my path.  I watched others as they began to make their way back down the mountain trail, and I saw the weaker ones sit by the side of the worn and demanding footpath, not knowing which way to go, as the mountain beaconed with its allure of fulfillment, completion and success.  The goal has always been to reach the mountain top.

Yet in the end, no one ever reaches the mountain top alone.  It is the journey that is the test, not the completion that determines the purpose of the quest.  It is the emotion of each step and the motions that we make, that defines the purpose and the reason why.
