IN THE HANDS OF SIMPLETONS

By Al Garcia

As our health and lives hang in the balance, we are being held hostage by nitwits and simpletons tasked with the solemn ritual of governance and leadership.  At stake are human lives – our lives -- and the legacy of generations past that gave their all to ensure our nation’s greatness as a leader of men, and an example to nations around the world of the strength of truth, justice, nobility and leadership.  Instead, we sit and wait and listen, while simpletons in power suits and arrogant minds decide the course of our future and the destiny of the world around us.

Unlike other crisis and challenges that have confronted our nation and the world, when men of foresight, compassion and understanding took control and command, today we find ourselves manically listening to the bickering, the lying, the confusion, the blaming and finger-pointing, and the disorder that is contributing to the fear and the needless deaths of vulnerable and defenseless people across our infected and devastated nation.

Many of us have grown up and grown older during this pandemic.  We have had time to listen and to watch those who are handling the crisis, and we have become a bit wiser and less patient with their words and actions with the passage of time, as we witness the playground-like shenanigans by undisciplined, pampered and imprudent national leaders playing with our national security, our safety and our very lives, and in the process, aiding and abetting the very enemy that threatens the very fabric of our society.

We are unwilling hostages to the bullying, name-calling, and the pushing and shoving by the very leaders that are supposed to be inspiring and motivating us to rise above the frivolity and idiocy of politics and personalities at a time like this.  Who will hold them accountable for their arrogant and egotistical behavior, while thousands continue to die and millions wait and watch in despair?

The question now is how long will the darkness last before it fades away?  How long and how much harm will it take before it is too late to find our way back from the brink of the chaos that shrouds the dreams that used to spark our passion and our obsession with life as used to be?  How long must we watch and listen to nitwits and simpletons pretend to empathize and understand the plight of ordinary people during this extraordinary time?

How much longer must we place our lives and our futures in the hands of simpletons?
