THE NIGHT HAS EYES

By Al Garcia

The darkness veils the evil that dwells inside the human heart.  It is the dark that hides the blemishes and the scars left on fragile souls too weak to shield itself from the affront of the corruptions that invade the mind and heart without assent.

The night has eyes that peer into the human soul and sees the hurt, the sadness and the oozing wounds that time has never healed.  It is the night that comforts and protects the ugliness that lingers and festers beneath the smile or grin that masks the unshared sadness and wretchedness of life’s unchartered course.

It is the night that embraces and consoles our broken hearts, and the night that reveals the unconfronted truths that challenge the mind and torment the beating heart.

It is the darkness that lights the path through the misfortunes and the hardships of our lives.  And it is the darkness that accentuates the rays of hope that sustains and fuels the courage and the spirit to persevere, despite the tasks and tribulations that we face.

The night has eyes that see what the human heart can feel and what the flustered mind attempts to contradict or repudiate.  It is the eyes that pierce the night that see beyond the broken hearts, broken promises, and abandoned vows.

And it is in the quiet of the night that tears begin to flow -- when we begin to see what the night reveals and what the darkness had attempted to conceal.  The night has eyes that reflect the unblemished truths of life, and expose the fragility of living.

The night has eyes . . . to see what we refuse to accept or to believe.
