Imagine a place where truth, civility, respect, altruism, humility and compassion are not tolerated or condoned in any way, shape or form. JUST IMAGINE!

By Al Garcia

Imagine a place where truth, civility, respect, altruism, humility and compassion are not tolerated or condoned in any way, shape or form.  Imagine a place that extols the worst of times in our national history, and the worst of human behavior and conduct.  Such twisted and warped imaginations do exist.

Imagine a national leader that banishes, fires or snuffs the reputations and character of anyone who speaks words of enlightenment and truth, or utters words contradicting his asinine, unintelligible and sometimes idiotic pronouncements or assertions.  Such a perverse, bitter and wounded imagination can exist, and even thrive with lack of conscience or challenge.

If only it were our imagination.  If only we were not paying the price of fumbling and dithering inactions of our leaders, and the deafening silence of compliance, submission and obedience by those surrounding the throne of thorns.  And I cringe with trepidation and apprehension as the days and weeks continue to pass, and confusion, disorder and turmoil begin to take their toll on disrupted lives and forsaken dreams.  Just imagine if we had leaders who actually thought before they spoke, and spoke only words that united, uplifted and enlightened.  Just imagine.

I long to hear the voice of truth, of reason and of compassion emanate from the corridors of the Whitehouse and Congress, instead of listening to disparaging words, personal attacks, and seeing political expediency at its very worst.  Just imagine where we might be today had someone spoken up for us, and not stayed silent in the shadow of an ego to vain to comprehend the concept of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all – not just one man or one party.  Just imagine.

We are being attacked on two fronts simultaneously.  Our bodies are being assaulted by a vicious virus that knows no boundaries, and wounds, maims and kills, while our minds and our spirits are being insulted and broken by a callousness and indifference that is diminishing the very vibrance, vigor and drive that once inspired heroes and champions to rise from the depths of the ordinary, to light the path for all people and all nations.

Yet, despite the efforts to keep us down, submissive, and deaf and dumb to what is going on around us, we see in our midst, ordinary people listening to their hearts and natural instincts.  We see a resurgence of common decency and common sense, and even respect, being shown and practiced in our communities around the country, despite the continued bullying, intimidation, misstatements and miscalculations by those entrusted with our national well-being.  Just imagine the power of the human heart.

Let us not simply imagine a place where truth, civility, respect, altruism, humility and compassion once shed their light.  Let us begin to live the values and the ideals once again, that reflect the true and majestic radiance of our nation and our character.  Just imagine the best of times and the best of us, and you will see the spirit of a fallen nation begin to rise again -- from the depths of the pettiness of weak and corruptible men, to the heights attained by everyday heroes and champions who inspire us to share the best of us with the rest of us.

Just image the power of the heart – and the rest just happens, naturally.  One nation under God.  One world united, and humbled.  Do not listen to the insults or deflections.  Do not be swayed by camouflaged gestures or contrivances.  Just listen to your heart, and just imagine . . . .
