A POCKETFUL OF SUNDAYS

By Al Garcia

Sundays are always a wonderous day of solitude and separateness. A day to wonder and to ponder. A day of reflection and contemplation.  But most of all, a day to listen to the muted voice inside of you and feel the texture of the energy of life, so fragile and so nimble.

Sundays always bring a quietness to the frenzied world around us. The sounds of our daily lives subdued, and the rush and crush of mindless thoughts more measured and unhurried, like lingering wisps of remembered innocence. And for one brief moment we presume to understand that which is, and that which lies beyond the embracing midst of faith.

With church bells ringing, choirs singing and whispered prayers declaimed, Sundays bring out the best in us, and a renewed awareness of all that surrounds us. It is the day that we shed our tears, voice our grief and confront our fears. It is also when hope prevails, love overcomes, and courage triumphs over weakness and despair.

Sunday is the day that the human soul is revitalized and reenergized, and when the mind, the heart and soul collaborate to keep the flame alive in us.  Sundays also tend to let us relive and re-experience time once shared with those that it now holds within its realm.

How we all long waking up on Sunday mornings to the rituals of a faith that gives us hope and courage to go on.  How we all enjoy opening our eyes and seeing the sun, and feeling the warmth that radiates around us.  How we look forward to witnessing the beauty of the colors that astound and overwhelm us.  But best of all is waking up on Sunday morning and hearing the sound and seeing the faces of those we love and those that complete us in every way.

Sunday is the day to reaffirm what we believe, and then to live it and believe it to be true, in all we do, and say, and think.  From the moment we wake up and see and feel the rays of light, until the evening light begins to fade, and the slumber of exhaustion and contentment begins to consume the stardust and the moonbeams that reignite the dream of us, we are filled with the passion of our Creator, and with the humility of our humanity.

And all we ever need, is a pocketful of Sundays . . . . for only one a day keeps the flame alive.
