SEASONS OF OUR LIVES

By Al Garcia

Each season brings with it a uniqueness that enflames the human spirit with a new awareness and appreciation.  Each season also brings me memories and recollections of my childhood and of the days that brought family and friends together in anticipation and expectation.  This Spring season brings with it a crispness that permeates the air, and scatters with the gentle breeze a sense of promise and of hope.

It is the season of reminiscing about Mom and Dad, and of the time of their lives -- a time that still lingers in my mind and in my heart.  A time of their passion and their devotion to me and my brothers and sisters.  I remember each one of our seasons as portraits of love, defined by unconditional acceptance and affection.  I recall each season filled with emotions and sensations that still live inside of me, despite the passing moments and the interludes of interrupted lives.

Each season brought the cries of childish delights and childhood fights, and of hugs, and of sharing and of caring.  All memories that flood my mind and reawake emotions within me.  For me and my siblings, each season was a time of learning and of growing.  Each season molding the character and the identity of who we would become.  And it was watching and seeing the blossoming of each season that taught us, and brought us closer, and made us realize and appreciate how our relationships were unique, just like the different seasons, yet each complimenting the other, each connected to the other, and each, never ending.

This is why each season evokes memories and brings to life the ghosts that make me smile and make me remember the innocence that used to be.  It is the ghosts of each passing season that ignites the wonder, the spectacle and the appreciation of life, in all its stages, and all its phases.

This is another season of ghosts and of memories.  A time when our minds are flooded with images and recollections of seasons past.  Of times shared with those that time has snatched away, and of times of laughter and of joy.  It is the season of awakened ghosts, when our regrets may haunt our guilty hearts or remorseful souls, for having ignored or taken for granted a season that will never come again with those we loved and cared so deeply for.

The seasons speak to us of growth, of decay, of completion and of continuation.  The seasons teach us patience, tolerance, endurance, and resilience.  Most importantly, the seasons explain to us the virtues of time, and how time is the gift that lasts a lifetime and beyond.  It is the time that we share on Thanksgiving with our family and our friends around a table laden with the bounty of our toils.  It is the time we sit around a Christmas tree, just sharing a quiet moment with loved ones – family, friends and even the kitty sleeping under the tree and the doggie wagging his tale in anticipation of a treat.  It is the time on New Year’s Eve when we join in the revelry and merriment with family, friends and even strangers, to welcome in the beginning of another year and another season.  It is our shared times and those shared moments away from the maddening crowd, that is the gift of each season.

We are in a moment, in a season, and in a time of our lives to make new memories and new reasons to look forward to the seasons yet to come.  We should cherish and consume each passing moment, and not just become an interrupted interlude in the lives of those we love.

We should savor and relish the seasons of our lives.
