In times of sorrow and of grief, the brevity, significance and appreciation of life is experienced unlike anything else in our lives. We sense and suffer an emptiness within us. We feel and bear emotions that conflict and clash with our heart and our mind, and we endure the human trait of selfishness, for wanting life to never end and never fade, or for time to turn back the seasons of our lives, to days of joy, laughter and elation.

JUST GIVE IT TIME

By Al Garcia

In times of sorrow and of grief, the brevity, significance and appreciation of life is experienced unlike anything else in our lives.  We sense and suffer an emptiness within us.  We feel and bear emotions that conflict and clash with our heart and our mind, and we endure the human trait of selfishness, for wanting life to never end and never fade, or for time to turn back the seasons of our lives, to days of joy, laughter and elation.

Yet time passes like a mild and pleasant wind on a Summer’s day.  And we welcome it and comfort in its warm embrace, knowing too well how each passing day deceives us with its gentleness and promises of things yet to be.  And it is the restlessness within us that embraces the passing seasons that slowly fade into the shadows and then vanish into the folds of time with our unfinished dreams.  It is then, that time begins to numb the pain of loss, and it is then that long untouched memories begin to come alive.  It is time that strokes the passions of pleasures and joys once felt and shared, and it is time that begins to erase the hardships and the tears.

In times of sorrow and of grief, it is when we come to terms with the measure of time, and how time is the rendezvous of our destiny -- an interval between the consciousness of reality and life, and the ethereal illusion of an eternal existence beyond the span of all time.

And even though we grieve and mourn for those we loved, and those who shared their lives with us, we accept the passage of time, as the passing days leave us vulnerable and exposed, helpless and sensitive to our memories of all the seasons shared.  Memories of childhood, of mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, of aunts and uncles, cousins and friends, husbands and wives, and all those whose unconditional love and devotion transcended all boundaries of logic, reason or judgment.

It is in times of sorrow and of grief that we come to realize that this one moment in time has changed everything around us, except our sense of wonderment and reverence at the amazing grace and love felt and shared.  It is during this most vulnerable of times that we realize that life is a figment of time, its essence continuing to sustain us as the winds of time continue to flow, bestowing its promises of remembrances beyond the bounds of our mortality.

And it should comfort us and brings us joy to remember and to celebrate life once shared, and life that is yet to be lived and shared.  For in the end, the one thing sorrow and grief bestows upon us all, is another day, another season, to pass forward to those around us, the grace, the love, the devotion and the esteem of those who completed us in every way.

And it is in times of sorrow and of grief, that we learn in our own way and in our time, to accept the gift of timelessness and what it means – and of legacies left behind in wounded hearts.  Just give it time.
