Sometimes I look at the darkness wondering what it would show me.

In the darkness, I saw it staring at me. Its glowing eyes remind me of fire. It resembles a person I’ve forgotten. It wasn’t anger or grief that brought it back. It was disappointment. This person had dreams that it had given up, opportunities that slipped away, and regrets that left it defeated. If I could control time, I would tell this person to believe in itself more. Trust itself to believe the unbelievable. Let this person’s life manifest itself to be something more than just fragment marbles. For the longest time, we stared at each other, the person I had forgotten. I couldn’t bear to look at it, but I need to remember this person before it crawls back into the shadows. Somehow, I knew I wouldn't. Life would go on and I would be left here looking at the person that I had abandoned.
