There’s something out there.  She could see it now.  When Lori left last night there was nothing. Throwing her favorite blanket over her shoulders, she walked out the door. Lori moved away from the turmoil of an eight-year relationship.

Greg was not a bad guy.  He never hit her, but he had no compassion.  He had plenty of passion when it came to satisfying his lust, yet his caring in between those moments was mute.

Lori wondered if he even heard her, telling him about Jenny’s miscarriage. His statement was simply a joke about wearing a condom. Enough emotional emptiness. A walk would do her good.

She hadn’t expected to walk all night.  She hadn’t expected to get lost in her thoughts, trekking into Mountain Pass National Park. Moving in memories her legs carried her along a dirt path. Lori cared about people.  She wasn’t concerned about their background or their political parties. Why couldn’t Greg see that.

The world she was looking at now was different. A mist was clearing over the lake. Her mind saw the vista for what it was, a new day. Yeah, the thought was one of those clichéd platitudes you use to comfort your-Self. But this was different Lori actually felt it.  She knew her heart had awoken to the voice of her soul.

Lori laughed as she looked over the vista. She thought of the grinch looking down at Whoville, remembering the Christmas cartoon with his heart growing ten sizes. Funny how the simple things learned in innocence applied even more today.

Yeah, this was a new world. No, things had not changed, she had.  Perspective was molded, built as she took the steps to this place. She pulled the blanket around her shoulders smiling. Life is good if you make it so.
