TOGETHER

By Al Garcia

At a time of uncertainty and anxiety, when we are isolated and separated from the world around us and from those who complete us and sustain us, we find ourselves mentally imprisoned by ignorance and the incongruity and absurdity of our own imperfections and vulnerabilities.

To have perfected killing machines and weapons of mass destruction of every type, and to now be cowed and panicked by the unexpected attack of a simple virus that devastates the brilliance of man’s manic mind, confounds the logic of trying to escape the very outcome we have being trying to achieve since the beginning of time -- our own suicidal lunacy to extinguish life of every type and form.

It is bewildering to watch as the world around us comes to a squelching halt when assaulted by nature’s own retaliation against the very creatures given supremacy over the beauty and the majesty of all that glistens and grows under the heavens.  What man has failed to accomplish through endless wars, conflicts, rivalries, crusades, battles and confrontations of every kind, the winds of time are now attempting to assure.  And as the winds of change hover over the beasts that never learned to tend the fields together, or sow the seeds of human sympathy and empathy, there is an obscene obsession to blame everything except the consuming, devouring and razing mind of man.

It is time to feel the energy of the force that has brought the world to the brink of consciousness.  We are forced to see the world as the fragile and volatile place that it is, and to acknowledge our caretaker role as an infectious impediment to the tranquility and serenity of the garden that was supposed to be in the vastness of all that is.

The ticking clock has stopped.  Time is up.  The world has turned its natural force and energy against its guardians and protectors -- and many wonder why, while I only wonder why it took so long.

Time after time, the hands of fortune and of providence have held the beating heart of man within its grasp, and each time the tides of destiny have washed away the man-made castles in the sand, leaving only memories of what was and yearnings for what could have been.

The human mind can conceive of time, space, energy and beauty beyond the boundaries of the universe.  The mind can also deceive and betray the essence of what lies beneath the dreams and the visions that consume the evolving and altering psyche that fuels the passions of the erratic soul of man.  We are the architects and innovators of the illusions that inspire the genius that creates, while also designing and creating twisted minds that destroy the beauty and repose of lives and of moments that never fade from memories or time itself.

War after war.  Unending conflicts of every kind and type.  Hatred and betrayal.  Envy and greed.  Lust and desire.  An eye for an eye.  We are our own worst avenger of our better angels and phantoms that guard our way to heaven’s gates.  How many missteps must we take before we fall and lose our way?  How many fallen souls must we pass along the way, before we become immune from the pain and the tears of loss?  Senseless.  Endless.  Breathless.  Each moment defined by the joy or the pain of our emotions.

And as we accept and endure this moment in our lives, we must ask ourselves, not why, but rather, why did it take so long?  Why did it take so long for the world to realize the truth of life and of living – to love, to share, to grow and to thrive – together.
