TIME TO REAWAKEN TO THE RHYTHM OF LIFE

By Al Garcia

The whole world looks so different now, as I glance at the abandoned streets from the shores of New York to the City of Lights across the sea.  The sound of silence deafening to ears that used to hear the hustle and bustle of impatient and erratic people, touching people, cheating people, killing people.

The sight of lonely people, walking silently and aimlessly on empty streets, saddening to the anxious heart.  While the bleak and dreary grayness that has settled on the world, devouring the fading radiance of the kaleidoscopic texture and resonance of the palpitating rhythm of life as it used to be.

Muted echoes of desperate, solitary and isolated cries pierce the stillness that betrays the ominous days that may lay ahead, while witless and reckless minds continue to deceive and betray the innocence of frightened and fretful souls, with fabricated hope and incorrect, inaccurate and untruthful facts that only exacerbate the fear and distrust.

Our world is different now, but still spinning and breathing, despite the cracks and rattles inflicted by time, and by our indifference, disinterest and apathy, as inept caretakers and wardens of God’s Garden of Eden.

I want to wake up in the morning, look out my window, and see again the world as it used be.  I want to see the hustle and bustle of pushing and shoving restless and active people as they go about their daily lives.  I want to hear the shouts of frustration, the yells of glee, and the roar of the crowds, as normalcy returns to our lives and to the world.  I want to see the streets of New York, the Arce de Triomphe and the Champs Elysees, and the plaza of St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican, filled with crowds again.

I know that nothing will ever be the same again.  The whole world looks so different now.  Smaller.  More relatable.  More approachable.  More human.  And most of all, I hope, wiser and humbler.

Time is not on our side.  This is our wake-up call.  The aspiration and inclination to come together and work together, is now in motion.  The choice is ours.

It's time to reawaken to the rhythm of life, and living again.
