When I was young, carefree and foolish, I was innocence exemplified.

INVINCIBLE

By Al Garcia

When I was young, carefree and foolish, I was innocence exemplified.

I saw the world in shades of reds and blues, and greens and yellow - a rainbow, bright and glorious.

When I was young, I laughed and joked and felt I was invincible.

And then, when I was ten plus nine, I became a man at the blink of an eye.

No time to laugh, no time to joke.  No more colors, now everything just black and white, and in a heart’s beat I find that I am vulnerable to the dark reality before me.

I find myself in a war a world away from home.

I am alone.

I am no longer the young, carefree, foolish and innocent boy.

I am not invincible after all.
