he's lurking

Off in the distance an unholy scream

As you lay entombed in darkness

Wide awake, ears straining to hear,

Imagination building a tower of dread

Heartbeat getting louder in your Poe ears

Think to yourself in panic, “he’s coming!

Then you’re sure you hear footfalls

Creeping outside your window

A silhouette, or a trick of the light

Catches the corner of your panicked eyes

“He’s here!” screams in your brain

As your fevered thoughts leap for a weapon

Then all is quiet for the longest time

As your heart returns to your chest

Only silence echoes from the world outside

Slowly, ever so slowly, you begin to hope

You were wrong, that imagined danger

Isn’t waiting out in the darkness

Of course, you let your fear have free reign,

The danger was all in your mind,

Built up to terrible by your paranoia

Your breathing, once caught in your throat,

Calms and slows, your pulse returns to normal

You slowly, so slowly, begin to relax and drift off,

When the door is smashed in by the creature

Your brain barely registers your demise,

Then all is black

Truly captured the horror of that moment. Excellent, Mike.

Thanks, Hull, and also captures the horror I'm afraid is coming. Yesterday, my last defense against the danger of this man and mindset of too many people disappeared as Rachel Maddow is now taking the threat he poses seriously instead of laughing at his pathetic attempts
