Let us not attempt to repeat a part of history that almost destroyed the world and exterminated not only millions of lives, but also the very soul of human existence. Let us not bow down once again to the voice of deceit and depravity. Let us have courage to open our eyes wide and see the immorality, corruption and decadence that we have let loose on our land and on the world. Again.

LOOKING BACK TO OUR FUTURE

By Al Garcia

In the early 1920s, a new and radicalized political party came into power in Germany, espousing to accomplish three things:  1) abolish the terms of Treaty of Versailles, 2) conquer land in Europe for the settlement of the growing population of Germany, and 3) exterminate the Jews. That political movement and its leader were careful, however, about their policies to accomplish their three goals since they did not want to alarm the great powers, and they needed time to build up their military alliances and their own military.

Today, America is following the German guidebook to power and self-destruction.  Our current leaders in Congress, led by an ex-President, also have three priorities:  1) to abolish all agreements, policies, treaties and understandings entered into, negotiated by, or reflective of Obama and his Administration, and to now obstruct, frustrate and thwart all efforts by the Biden Administration to move our country forward; 2) to retreat from America’s long-standing role as the world’s leader in supporting freedom, morality and justice; and 3) the removal and permanent deterrence of individuals in office, at any level, deemed undesirable because of their race, ethnicity, religion, or refusal to denounce truth, in all its forms.

In Germany, the political movement was composed primarily of Nationalists devoted to one and only one goal – Germany first.  In America today, our ex-President, and his followers, are also Nationalists, devoted to one and only one goal – America first, at all costs, even at the expense of discarding Constitutional protections and guarantees, and the norms of centuries-old American idealism.  Why are Americans ignoring the warnings of history?  Must we repeat the savagery and indecency and immorality that is always the consequence of an unfettered Nationalist agenda, as history has taught us?

Already we are seeing the division that is being fanned across our nation in the name of America first.  Already we are seeing the flames of intolerance scorching our moral integrity and fortitude.  Already, we have sowed the seeds of doubt and confusion in the minds and hearts of many of our citizens, our friends, our neighbors and our allies with the unrestrained rhetoric of unseasoned, unqualified, uninformed and ignorant leadership in Congress and in State Houses around the country.  And again, the German experience comes to mind.

Again.

When will we as a Country say “Enough”?  When will we as a country say, “Let us make new and exciting and momentous history.  Let us not repeat history.”

America has always led the world.  We stepped off ships onto a new land, and within a short time span, made it the envy of the world.  We stepped off a rocket ship and set foot on the moon and inspired the world.  We speak truth and live freely.  We welcome and embrace those seeking refuge from persecution.  We are the land of the brave.  We are and always have been a great and powerful Nation.  Let’s not be deceived into believing we are not great in so many ways.  Let us not be deceived into believing that we cannot see our errors and our mistakes.  Let us not be deceived into believing that we are not trying to become a more perfect union, a more tolerant nation, and a more just and nobler people.  That is our greatness.  That is the greatness that world sees in us.

Let us continue to make history.  Let us not be taken back to a dark and dismal time and place where we must relive the mistakes that almost destroyed the world.

Repeating history is not the American way.  America’s way is making history -- not turning back the hands of time.  Let us not look back in time and back in history to see what lies ahead for us.
