I open my eyes and welcome the morning light. It is the beginning of another day.

DAY BECOMES US

By Al Garcia

So many reasons to keep my eyes shut and avoid the coming day -- the aches and the pains of getting one day older, the sadness at having to watch as someone you love gets a bit weaker, the thought of having to cope with the trials of simply living the same day yet again.

But then, like every day before, the reason to wake up, and the reason to get up, overtakes the melancholy thoughts.  It’s life!  That miracle created and sustained by an obsession and a hunger to see what lies beyond another day.  It is the fury within the human spirit that arouses the instinctual primeval lust to exist, to survive, to share, but most of all to live.

And the day beacons us with promises and fears.  With joy and sadness, laughter and tears.  For it is the fate of man to experience the ecstasy and the agony.  Only then can we begin to prepare for what exists beyond tomorrow, because each day becomes us.
