I sing a song of courage. A song of hope and faith and possibilities. I sing of my America, the land I love and cherish.

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL, WHERE ART THOU

By Al Garcia

I sing a song of courage.  A song of hope and faith and possibilities.  I sing of my America, the land I love and cherish.

There is a place beyond the rainbow, beyond the confines of imagination.  A place that beacons and shelters the multitudes.  A place that harbors the lost and the discarded, and a place that listens to the sobs of despair and the wails of defeat with empathy and affection.  America the beautiful.  A place where daydreams can come true and where illusions and pipedreams paint the sky with marvels and wonders that astound us and confound us.  My America, the beautiful.

I sing a song of courage.  A song of hope and faith and possibilities.  I sing of my America, the land I love and cherish

There is a place beyond the boundaries of mere ordinary, where men of character, vision and faith proclaimed the destiny of man.  A destiny beyond the shadows of the sun, or the rays of a silvery moon.  They were ordinary men in an extraordinary time and place.  The time was at the awakening of our minds, and the place was along the shores of my America, the beautiful.  There was magic in the air, and there was hope in the dark and rich soil below.  And the nurturing and flowing streams and rivers, like veins and arteries, leading to the heart and soul of my America, the beautiful.

I sing a song of courage.  A song of hope and faith and possibilities.  I sing of my America, the land I love and cherish

But, like the climate that sustains us, have we depleted the essence of our destiny?  Have we unknowingly become the architects of our sarcophagus, entombed in the ravishes of greed and arrogance beyond the grasp and control of man?  Must we watch and participate in the dismantling of my America, the beautiful?

I sing a song of courage and outrage.  A song of hope and faith and possibilities, and what could have been.  I sing of my America, the land I love and cherish, and now fading from my sight.

America the beautiful, where art thou?
