I am at the age of self-reflection. A time when youth is a lingering memory, when middle-age has left the room, and when what’s left is simply a reflection of who I used to be – a man with the aches and pains of having lived. and now just waiting to be laid to rest.

WHO WAS I MEANT TO BE?

By Al Garcia

I am at the age of self-reflection.  A time when youth is a lingering memory, when middle-age has left the room, and when what’s left is simply a reflection of who I used to be – a man with the aches and pains of having lived. and now just waiting to be laid to rest.

One of my reflections is about my life.  Did I live my life as who I was meant to be?  Did I make a difference in anything I did or said?  Was I good and kind, and a loving son, brother and friend?  All these things go through my mind, as I reflect upon my life, as I sit and think and wait.

I know I was meant to be, but just who was I meant to be I cannot figure out.  It’s like knowing you’ve been there before, but you can’t recall the day, the time, or even if you were ever really there.  I sense a deja vue, not of a place or time, but of a heart and of a soul that I can sense but cannot explain, or fully comprehend.

I hope I was simply meant to be me, because that’s all there is of me.
