She had climbed the bluff to be close to him and now she sat on their rock at the top, looking out upon the valley as the daylight began to fade. Within this golden hour the colors around her were enhanced by the setting sun. It flowed over her and covered her in reds, oranges, yellows, and greens.

In this place her memories were of him. She could clearly see his face in her mind, but it was slowly fading with the light of the day. Her eyes filled with tears as she thought of how he’d left her. She thought of how he’d looked at her when he’d spoken his final words. He’d told her to remember how they’d watched the sunset from the bluff. He told her that it was not her fault. She knew and understood that, but it did not lessen her pain.

From their spot, the breeze grew cooler as it brushed her hair aside. Instinctively she pulled her green shawl tighter around herself. It was a chill that he would have stopped if he’d had been there. He would have put his arms around her and held her close. He would have kissed her cheek and told her that he loved her.

But the light was now gone as was her image of him. The darkness had come upon her. She could feel it wash over her and enter her being. She finally fully realized her loss as she lowered her head and wept in the cold night air.

There must have been so many memories, i can only imagine the pain. This was quite heartbreaking, and you capture the scene and the emotions very well.
This story really pulled me in.
Well written.
