"In my defense, I have none."

- The One (song)

If you’re anything like me,

You’ve waved more times than you’ve said, “Hi.”

If you’re anything like me,

You’ve shed more tears than times you’ve said, ”Goodbye.”

If you’re anything like me,

You’ve been infatuated more times than you can count

If you’re anything like me,

You’ve said a heartless ‘sorry’ in every dilemma on your account

If you’re anything like me,

You did have the courage of your convictions but it wasn’t enough

If you’re anything like me,

You’ve been told by every known stranger to “grow the hell up”

If you’re anything like me,

Most of you’re friendships don’t end on a good enough note

If you’re anything like me,

You gave them as much time as you could devote

If you’re anything like me,

You’d die for acknowledgement,

yet can’t seem to crawl out of you charred abyss.

If you’re anything like me,

You know every nook and cranny

of the town you know you’ll never miss.

If you’re anything like me,

You’re trapped in the past

But peek out time and again to catch a glimpse of the present

If you’re anything like me,

Your eyes aren’t like diamonds, nor the sun

But in them, a faint strand of hope does twist into a glimmering crescent.
