The opportunity was there. When her paper husband was incarcerated She had the motive. She had The means. She could have left the funds were available. She would be home before anyone realized she was going.

Martha should  have taken the first Greyhound headed south. He manipulated her sympathy and sense of fairness  into committing perjury. Michael tried to say the firearm in the bedroom closet wasn't his. He tried to frame her. She had every right to leave.

She could have left within twenty four hours after she was sexually assaulted. Michael was incarcerated. She could have,  and should have left when Michael told the investigators `` she has done this before. She lures men into her motel room ,has consentual sex and accuses the man of rape. He was lying. The marital bond, trust,  was severed.

Martha could have left anytime using any of his numerous adulteries as justification .
