A poem dedicated to my Grandfather

My Hero

My earliest memories in life, are filled with moments spent with you.

Even though you were often broken inside, you always taught me everything you knew.

You taught me how to be a gentle protector, and to always put my family first.

You taught me to love those around me, and to cherish those who love me at my worst.

While Nanda introduced me to faith, you are the reason I know God is real.

Watching him deliver you from your demons, changed the way I now think and feel.

Ill never forget the night you confessed and got saved, its forever etched in my heart.

That taught me that not only is God real and forgiving, but with him there’s always a fresh start.

You taught me it was ok to show emotion and to always live my truth.

You taught me a man doesn’t hide his flaws, instead he uses them for growth.

I thank you for the driving lessons and the times you took me to fish.

In those moments you taught me life lessons on being patient and to never give in or quit.

You taught me how to treat a woman, and to be gentle with my approach.

Ill make a great husband one day, just for having you as my coach.

I am forever blessed for the life you lived and time I had with you.

I never needed to search for a role model or hero, because I had all that and more with you.
