The List of All the Desires

Swapnil was sitting on a boulder near the banks of the river Hooghly. A cold breeze was making the afternoon a little more pleasant, the sun was going to hide near the horizon and Swapnil was observing that scenery.  A thin green line was visible near the horizon, that’s the village on the opposite bank of the river. Above that thin green line, the orange sun and the faded blue sky were looking mesmerizing and there were few feather-like clouds floating in the sky.  The river was flowing with all of its strength and was making a sound that could calm anyone’s mind. It was feeling like, a wizard cast his spell and made that environment like that.  Swapnil was lost in his mind while enjoying the moment and started thinking of Nilima.

“If Nilima had stayed with me now, what would she have thought, about this scenery?” He questioned himself in his mind.

Swapnil was like this, from his childhood. He loved to observe the nature, stay with it, enjoy the little beauties of nature and share them with others. He was an emotional kind of person, a boy who had so many feelings but nobody was there to understand those. Then someone came, they started sharing, that other person made him so many promises and one day she left. Swapnil guessed that she left because; those emotions were too heavy to bear for her. He thought he would destroy the emotions, he would burn it and he would scatter the ashes on the open air, so that no one could find those, ever again. He was going to, but then he met Nilima. Nilima was the Goddess who saw his every flaw as a talent. Who took every emotion and kept those safe, in her mind. But there was a problem, he could feel her, could talk to her but couldn’t able to see her or touch her. Swapnil guessed that, she was a Goddess and that was the reason of it.  When he used to miss her presence around him, he loved to think about different imaginary scenarios with her.  Here he was doing the same thing; one after another many things were coming and going in his mind.

“The day, I first saw the snow fall, I was with my family, it was a vacation on the mountains, and I touched the snow for the first time. It was magical. If Nilima could’ve been by my side that day, how would I have felt?” Swapnil again thought inside his mind.

“Or, how about that day? When I first tried to climb the guava tree at our backyard, I fell from a branch, there was nobody around me. If she could see me in that moment, what would have been her reaction?” He asked himself again.

“The first class bunk, it was a biology class; I was going to washroom and heard that biology teacher was discussing about taking a surprise test with another teacher. I came back and took my bag and slowly left the classroom and started walking through the corridor of the school. After I was out of the school I started running and I didn’t stop until I was at a safe distance. My heart-beat became faster, it was a thrilling experience. I wonder if Nilima could have held my hand and gave me company that day.”

He was continuously thinking about his memories, the moments of his life.

“The day, when I first time saw my name in our school magazine; everyone was praising my writing, what if Nilima read that before everyone else, what would have been her reaction?”

“When my grandfather died, everyone told me that I was a kid, I couldn’t go with them to the crematorium, I was crying alone at home. I want, Nilima to be there, I want to place my head on her shoulder at that moment. ”

“When I played my first cricket match at the local stadium, I hit a six on the second ball which I faced. Everyone was cheering; I want Nilima’s Face in that crowd.”

“In our school days, there was an ice-cream seller near our school, he used to sell an ice-cream called Magic-crush, I want to grab two of those ice-creams and want to go to the local garden, and want to share those with Nilima, under the Magnolia tree at that garden.”

He started writing these on a dairy. That was his diary where he was making the list of every desire he had. Every day the list was getting a little longer than the previous day. He wanted to re-live his entire life with Nilima. He knew that, it wasn’t possible. But you know what? Only human has limitations, but their dreams, they are free, they don’t have any limits. The darkness came and the magical atmosphere of the environment had been changed.  Swapnil stood up, put the diary in his pocket and mumbled, “I wish you were here with me, always, from the very beginning of my life, to the end.”
