A short poem about mariella novotny. controversially connected with jfk, russian diplomats, sleaze and scandals of the swinging sixties.

Remembering Mariella Novotny

A bit vulture, A bit eagle.

She was highly-spirited, wayward and fun. A rolling stone, a loaded gun. She was hungry for freedom and whatever the other world brought. She offered a service that the wealthy elite sort.

A creature of her upbringing, a survivor of hell, she got on with life and didn't dwell. Beautifully brutal in high societies Peccadillo desires, she was a companion and not a hire!

The Sexual revolution started in 1963 as Philip Larkin points out in his poetry. Mariella made headlines around the world as she flirted with scandal from political asks with the man in the mask; to bow-ties, orgies and spy's.

Caught in the web of perversion and desire, she couldn’t escape the political fire. Like a game of chess each move tightening the grip of the other with scandle making the front page cover.

Mariella Novotny's naked truth hung out to dry, her exposure cast as a lie. She had hoped to find peace as time went by, but her end was to die. A bird of her time was her crime as she mixed with the regal and claimed to be a bit Vulture a bit Eagle.

I don't know why but this makes me think. How many other "Companions" are out there that are being paid off to be quite with celebrities and politicians now a days. Or even if some of them who are older now are still being paid to be quiet. That would be quite the life

Hi
Yes, a very sad reflection on human societies. Sadly, I’m sure today is no better than it was in the sixties.
Thanks for your comment.

The poem is a well written ode to the 1960's. Kennedy, and John Profumo. And Keeler. It is well written.

Hi Rob
An interesting era. I was inspired after reading Lilian Pizzichini’s book The Novotny Papers.
Thanks. Have a great day.
