Our choices
and my photo "Fruits and Veggies"

From a distance spied the quarry
Lives soon taken for a curry.
The celery gasps as it is torn,
From its clump, a life is shorn.
Decibles undetected come horrific screams
That occurs when sliced it seems.
Lying quietly in a bunch
All sacrifices for a lunch
Bleeding as the skin is cut,
And garnished with a bit of nut.
So vibrant only days before,
Now hewn off and sent to stores.
To meet their final ends demise,
A feast prepared before our eyes.
To partake meat for some unforgiven,
But dicing carrots is not forbidden.
Earths vegetation sacrificing life,
For humans epicurean delights.
To choose which life to dessicate,
Of vegetables or flesh is the debate.
But I say all of life is sacred,
If it's boiled, roast, or baked.
We all choose murder, just to eat,
Whether it's vegetables or meat.
As we extend our lives so fleet,
The lifeforms of others we defeat.
To abstain draws one conclusion,
Denying hungers satisfaction.
The obvious outcome then,
Is starvation in the end.
So when you eat, bless it's existence,
For its sacrifice, makes yours persistent.

Good poem. It reminded me of the poem Vegetarians by Roger McGough.
