Cover Me With Roses

Cover me with roses;

let those petals fall

in a fragrant curtain

of romance,

of fantasy,

of rainbow hued rose tints.

And for a while

that lie

will float round my mind

and engulf me.

But those roses don’t last.

They whither,

they crinkle,

they dry out and rot.

And those thorns

pierce that cloud

with rips and tears

and drips of my blood.

Cover me with roses,

a constant reminder

of life,

of death,

and the misplacement of trust in between.
