Birds At The Spring explains a the magic of the water in the spring that has showed up near my home after being covered in debris for years upon years. It's short and sweet, and is a story I had written about a year ago. Birds At The Spring won an award in a contest set up at my old home, and won a very important spot in that neighborhood. It is one of my first creative stories and is important to me.

Thousands of years ago, before anyone ever knew of this spring, the birds would sit around the grass that would soon be the Coronado Spring. The birds used to roam the sky above where those who lived had set up their camps, so when the birds began to settle in the area of the spring, and less in the air, people grew confused. A man had seen where the birds were now staying, and one day decided to go down and investigate. When the man began to get closer to the birds, instead of flying away, the birds greeted him, and they all inched closer to a small leak that flowed down. One of the birds led him to the leak, and the man grew curious. He felt the water on his fingertips, and suddenly a smile formed on his face from ear to ear. He knew what he had to do. Days went by and he began to dig out a large hole. Anyone who saw him told him he was crazy, but he ignored and kept a smile on his face. He made sure that the birds were happy with work when he finished, and they were, so he left the spring feeling warm inside. Not too long later though, the man and his tribe were in danger, and had to leave the land near the spring.

Over time, more people discovered the spring, felt its water, and a smile would be plastered on their face. People began to come daily to feel the magical water. It was over crowded at the spring and the birds couldn’t

stay at the spring, so in the same way the birds gave the creator of the spring his idea, they led a man to the spring, and feeling it, he had a glorious idea. He wanted to make somewhere bigger where people could enjoy the spring’s magic water. He wanted to create an area with the finest water in Kansas. With the help of others, the man created Lake Quivira. People would come to the lake to see and feel the water, and soon everyone was very happy. But the birds knew that if they let the people freely feel the water daily, nobody would learn how to grow stronger through problems, because there would be no problems, so they limited the magic water. But they will tell you when it is time to feel the water. Legend has it, if you go down to the spring, if two birds circle around the spring, while the tree flourish with thick leaves, you can experience the magic water at the spring too. The water that will make you smile out of happiness and become connected with nature.
