The church has lost it's purpose
My painting study " The Old Tower in the Field " ( After Vincent Van Gogh )

And so I went and sat alone,
All others gazes turned to stone.
My clothes they clearly weren't the best,
A bit tattered and worn, not like the rest.
My smile only greeted when,
The plate was passed around again.
With ner'e to give, I shamefully sat,
And humbly tried to forget that.
I listened to the message there,
To be good, and never swear.
But as the ending came at last,
Everyone just rushed on past.
Eyes all downward, no contact,
Even the parson dodged my passing,
As I was sadly rejected from the massing.
Where is all the forgiving grace?
In this supposed Holy place?
I saw the polished cars and suits,
Where laughter erupted with horn toots,
And still no one would look at me,
The poorest soul in eternity.
I reckon those who saw me there,
Were fearful that they'd have to share.
I asked for nothing but communion,
For this was once a spiritual union.
Instead my presence was neglected,
By others who should have protected,
A lost soul needing Loving kindness,
Instead of rudeness and social blindness.
I will not go there ever again, for the spirit isn't of a kin.
Instead a hollow boastful scene, devoid of Love,
And just plain mean.

It was an experience I had once, after a hurricane took my roof off.
A mate told me the church might help, so on the next Sunday I went.
This poem is the result of that pointless excursion. Sad but true.
Thank God I have persevered since then. Onya Hulla!
