Camp Crystal Lake is cursed since the drowning of Jason Voorhees back in 1957, and the deaths of two camp counsellors in 1958. After a series of fires, and sabotage happens, the Christy family, the owners, file for bankruptcy causing the place to shut down. In 1977, twenty-seven year old Steve Christy, the son of the owners, funds $25,000 to re-open the camp, and hires staff and new campers, unaware of the horror to come.
