In The Woods

If you go down to the woods today,

venture further than ever before;

you’ll be more than surprised

than by teddy bears...

if you’re quiet,

patient,

unobtrusive.

Listen to the hoof beats

and hold your breath,

don’t let the shock

bring you premature death.

Through the trees

the centaur approaches -

half horse,

half man -

and in his hands an ornate bow.

Don’t move.

Don’t go.

Don’t make a sound

for his accuracy with arrows is renowned.
